May 2020 & 18 nests this year!

I'm delighted to be able to report that I now have eighteen active Tree Sparrow nests in my garden, with almost every post box occupied.
Cheers,
Dick
Hi Dick, I live in East Dorset and work on a Tree Sparrow recovery project in nearby SW Wilts. Like you I have put up many nest boxes (over 200 now) along with supplementary feeding in the winter months. I started the project in 2016 by inheriting an old project run by the RSPB in the 90's - I even managed to re-use some of their original nest boxes! This year has not been great as we estimate we are down 30% in breeding pairs compared to last year, maybe as a result of the very wet winter. We now have around 100 breeding pairs spread over 10 farms - some owned by the National Trust.

Hi Kevin,

I'm sorry to hear that numbers are down this year.
Hopefully they'll be back to full strength next year.
Sounds like you're doing great work there.

Cheers,
Dick
